5 Albums I Want To Be Buried With #33: Electrocutioner!
You can’t talk about the resurgence of Thrash Metal as a genre without talking about Long Island, New York trio Electrocutioner. Masterminded by vocalist and guitarist Mark Pursino the band are masters of the early 80’s version of the genre, the sound created you would hear in “Kill ’em All” era Metallica with the adrenalised riffs and John Carpenter style 80’s synth introductions. Since 2020 the three piece, who also feature bassist Rich Nieves and since 2023 drummer Tyler Bogliole, have been of growing concern, their albums in 2023’s “False Idols” and 2025’s “Harbinger” receiving not only praise but critical acclaim. So we had a conversation with Mark about what he would want to take to the afterlife and this is what he came up with…
The premise is simple: “Back in ancient Egypt they believed that the items their Kings were buried with would travel with them into the afterlife and so part of the burial ritual would see the mummified bodies surrounded by chariots, gold and more. Fast forward to now. If there were five albums that you’d want buried in the coffin with you to take to the afterlife, what would you choose?”
“This obscure and mysterious relic of hidden heavy metal history is necessary for the tomb. This is my favorite metal album of all time. The raw production, evil shredding, transfixing interludes, and catchy songs put this one over the top. The fact that the band was a secret project and has never been played live also just elevates the mystery behind this one. This is the only CD in my car and I have an unhealthy obsession with it.”
“Although I only listen to 99% metal and mostly just thrash, one of my favorite albums ever is T-Rex’s The Slider. I’m a huge fan of T-Rex and Marc Bolan’s songwriting in general, but this album has a real special quality to it that’s hard to put into words. I’d need this in the tomb for when I’d want to chill out and not try to break out of the coffin.”
“Speaking of breaking out of the coffin, if there’s one thrash metal album that could revitalize me and inject some brute strength into my veins and allow me to break out of the tomb, it would be the greatest New York thrash metal album of all time, Demolition Hammer’s Epidemic of Violence. This beast would instantly reanimate me and have me headbutt through a walls and I’d be roaming the graveyard with a vengeance.“
#4 – WHIPLASH – POWER AND PAIN
“I’ll never forget when my buddy showed me this album and was like, “…And all three guys in the band are named Tony!” The guitar playing on this album is without a doubt the album that inspired my guitar style the most. Forget the tomb, Power and Pain is an essential thrash metal album that everyone needs NOW!”
“Harbinger” by Electrocutioner was released on 5th September 2025 and is available over at bandcamp.
