Review: “Ear 2 Ear” by Volcano

There are criminal masterminds and then… there is multi instrumentalist Cody Davidson. Not content with having at least ten active projects running concurrently including Sanguisugabogg, in which he switched from drums to guitars earlier this year, he’s also mixing and mastering from the producers chair with Fix My Face Records. Idle hands are the devils workshop so Davidson likes to keep busy or so it seems. For those not in the know, one of his many projects is Volcano, an Ohio Beatdown Hardcore outfit which finds him joined by vocalist Jeremy Damron and drummer Collin St. Mary. Their prior convictions include 2022 debut EP “Fool 2 Tha Game” and 2025 follow up “No Way Back” for which they’ve surpassed 6 million streams on Spotify alone…

…recorded, mixed and mastered by the aforementioned Davidson the bands latest burnt offering is “Ear 2 Ear” a record which takes it’s name from a line in the lyrical narrative of vicious opening cut “Lay Low“. An old school Beatdown Metallic Hardcore cut with roots that go back to things like “Punishment” era Biohazard, while being far more ferocious, the cut in a menacing one wrapped in mosh parts with a couple of tasty tribal drum patterns thrown in for good measure. The bass line pops as Damron warns his enemies to get out of his way if they value their lives with such force that it feels like he’s going to be swinging hammers by the end of the night.

Groove laden riffs bring out the dead as Volcano are joined by JT Anderson of Cold Hard Steel for the heavy hitter that is “Salt”, the band combining some interesting drum fills with pumping gang vocals and Metallic Beatdown guitars. Another cut built in the shadow of intent and laced with thoughts of violence, it’s not to be underestimated because it’s sonically clever, especially when it transitions into a Willie Hutch sample that leaves you wanting more. Volcano specialise in quality over quantity but it has to be said with this they’ve created a monster and just casually let it loose [8.5/10]
