The Black Map #158: A Night In The Abyss from Brighton!
158 weeks after we started our weekly look at the lesser lights of heaven known as The Black Map, we return to the south coast and sunny Brighton, but not for the ice creams, chips or arcade games on the pier. No, it’s the Blackened Deathcore of A Night In The Abyss that we’re talking about because music soothes the savage beast. In February they dropped “Begotten” via Hollowed Records which was mixed and mastered by Myroslav Borys (Confessions Of A Traitor, Last Hounds) at Jigsaw Audio. A vicious four track affair that pushes the genre boundaries with dark synths and whammy bar drops while driving into Black Metal territory as well, it’s a dark cloud over the city. As a record, it builds on the solid foundations of the bands prior works in EP “Theophagy” and full length “Necropolis” as the band specialise in what they like to call “macabre melodies from miserable England“. Those released have opened doors that have allowed them to share stages with many heavyweights on the Underground Metal scene including Bound In Fear, Ingested and Harbinger but this new record is such a fine wine, it should take them further afield…
