Review: “Flesh Of A Saint” by Dark Worship

Crawling out from a post apocalyptic wasteland as depicted in The Book Of Eli are an entity known as Dark Worship, a collective orchestrated by J. Meyers (Axioma, Aureae Crucis) with the assistance of Aaron Dallison (Axioma, Keelhaul, Brain Tentacles, Perdition Sect), Nathan Opposition (Ancient VVisdom, Integrity), and J. Reed (Exorcisme, To Dust) as an instrument to conjure the bleak and unsettling essence of sonic darkness…

…essentially the work of multi instrumentalist J. Meyers, these first steps into the outer reaches of sonic existence are a punishing hellscape of Post-Industrial noise that sounds like it belongs to a low budget survivalist dark science fiction film. The darkness of Pitch Black springs to mind as the harsh and abrasive tones of each industrial element is disturbed by odd moments of clarity to create texture with repeated vocal lines like mesmerising mantras offering up moments of Blackgaze and night terrors. The twists and turns within these compositions are unsettling and bleak, there is no foresight as to where each one begins or ends with errie touches crawling out of the woodwork like termites over multiple listens. You can hear the influence of the darker side of Nine Inch Nails or Ministry without any of the traditional song structure as Meyes instead choses to follow a path of flow through the dark and oppressive wasteland to a dystopian future. It doesn’t have the violent or chaotic element that others in the genre might offer, instead offering a kind of deconstructed approach that you could imagine being used as a Fear Factory remix and there are times when you might question exactly what this is and what you are listening to. But then isn’t that the whole point of Dark Worship? [7/10]
