Exclusive Interview: Godeth talk “The Path Of Destruction”!
Having won over the North of England and then taken that momentum into last years incarnation of Bloodstock Open Air Festival, rising Deathcore crew Godeath hit us hard with new EP “The Path Of Destruction“. An intravenous drip straight to the vein that blends Death Metal and Hardcore with hints at a Symphonic future, it finds the outfit walking across broken glass in search of cathartic release. After reviewing the record, which is of course out now and everywhere you’d expect it to be, we spoke to guitarist Dylan and the conversation went something like this…
It has been three years since your debut EP “Life To Flame“; how do you feel looking back on that record now? Is there anything you would have changed about it given the opportunity or is it all about the perpetual forward motion? “I’d say mostly positive, it captured where we were at the time as a band but would I release it again? Probably not to be honest like I feel like we are much better songwriters now and the genre of that EP isn’t really what we are anymore. I do really like the title track though and am glad that we still play that live since Miles joined the band”
Having already played Bloodstock in your career to date, what are your aspirations for the project going forward? Touring Europe? Gain an endorsement? Appear on the cover of Metal Hammer Magazine? “All of the above? Honestly for me it’s just about writing songs and playing as many shows that we can, all of us in the band really live for it so if anything else comes out of it that’s just a bonus in our eyes. Playing in Europe would be a dream for me though, I’d love to be able to go to loads of different cities experiencing new and exciting things”
In 2023 you unleashed a pair of well received singles in “Scald” and “Solace“; what made you decide to cut “Scald” adrift as stand alone and not include it on your upcoming record “The Path Of Destruction”? “If we are being honest just the fact we used different producers mostly. We worked with Adam Gadsby for ‘Solace’ and we loved working with him so much that we decided to do the EP with him after we had recorded and released the song, and thought it fit well on the EP so decided to add it on”
We always say that even in the digital age, the first bite is with the eye and it has to be said that the artwork which adorns “The Path Of Destruction” is incredible! How did you go about choosing it and what do you feel it says about the project? “We were looking for artists to produce the artwork, and we came across the amazingly talented Eden’s End who had posted that artwork for sale and as soon as we saw it we all knew that we wanted it for our EP. The hellish landscape on it really captures the vibe we were going for with the EP and fits the title so well in my opinion”
What was it like working with producer Adam Gadsby (Isolate, Deceiver, On Hollow Ground)? “Adam is just a great guy to work with. He’s really supportive of you when you work with him and I couldn’t recommend him enough. He’s really captured what we wanted going into the recording process and helped achieve the sound we wanted. He’s also in a really good band called Veiled so check them out!!”
What’s next for Godeth? “Well we have the EP out on the 26th April, then we have a lot of shows booked for the next few months. But I mostly have to mention our EP release show at The Key Club, Leeds which I’m very excited for. Our announced gigs for the rest of the year are:
04/05 – Alma Inn, Bolton
05/05 – Metal Monocle, Leicester
11/05 – EP Launch Show, The Key Club, Leeds
08/06 – Academy 3, Manchester
