Exclusive Interview: My Latest Failure talk Past, Present and Future (Part #2)!
Hardcore injected Punk with hard hitting riffs and catchy choruses? That can only be My Latest Failure. In part #2 of our exclusive interview with vocalist, riff slinger and all round nice guy Chris Underhill, we talk about everything from upcoming shows to drinking Champagne to bring in the New Year… because why not? He might think Pizza is overrated but we can forgive him that as he does love a craft beer. So if you seem the geezer about, he’s drinking Neck Oil all night long!
Back in April 2023 you played a pair of new cuts at a Camden Rocks all dayer. So how is work progressing on the highly anticipated “Failures Vol 3“? There is wild speculation that it might stretch to seven tracks? “It seems to be the longer we put it off the more songs get added to it. Originally a 4 track EP is now a potential 6/7 track. By the time we record it could be 8, which we all know is album territory, could you imagine? We have been working on the new songs, it’s just a work in progress at the moment. I reckon we could be recording these next year which a potential song release at the end of the year, just depends on how it all goes.”
Kerrang! Magazine contact you about doing a My Latest Failure take on a Christmas classic for their Spotify playlist. What are you picking to make over? A bit of Mariah Carey? Slade? or something more left field? “We would totally cover I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizard. If we are going to destroy a Christmas song it needs to be big! Kerrang! Hook us up!”
How long has the “My Latest Failure & Friends” show on 1st February 2025 at the Phoenix Bar in High Wycombe with Ill Gotten Gains, Freudian Session and We Punch Tigers been in the works? What can the fans expect? “It’s been on the table for a few months now. I am super excited for this one, it’s our first show of the year and all the bands on the line up are top drawer. I’m sure these bands don’t need an introduction but I’m gonna do it anyway…
Ill Gotten Gains will be headlining the show. They’re a 5-piece Ska-core band from Basingstoke. Ska infused Punk with a little Hardcore sprinkled on-top. They’re a powerhouse dishing out banger after banger that will have you bouncing around the dance floor.
The Freudian Session are a Reading based Punk/Metal band who have recently supported Cancer Bats and played the legendary Rebellion Festival. These boys will be bringing the riffs, riffs and more riffs.
And of course, the one and only We Punch Tigers. Essex based Garage Punk, with a range of tracks from 2 seconds to 90 seconds. The Socks On Records finest will get your pulse racing with their fast paced Punk and banter
We will be playing as well, obviously. We have been working on some new songs that we will play at this show.
Expect fantastic music from 4 of the best in the scene, lots of energy and a bloody good time. It’s pay what you can entry as well, no brainer right?“
Champagne at midnight on New Years? Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions in mind? “Well, not sure if it will be champagne but will definitely be some sort of drink to toast the new year. Over the past few years New Year’s Eve has become a family night which is great fun. We get a Curry in, drink a few Beers then play Guitar/Band Hero. Perfection. I don’t usually make any New Year’s Resolutions, firstly because I don’t know what to do and secondly I can’t be bothered to commit to it as well. Say my resolution was to eat less chocolate, realistically that’s not going to happen. Nothing against New Year’s resolutions, I just don’t care for them. Haha”
What does 2025 have in store for you? “We have recorded our side of the split EP with We Punch Tigers, so these songs will be incoming the first half of the year. Really excited for people to hear what we have done with their songs and I am really excited to hear what they will do with ours.
We have some awesome shows lined up as well including our My Latest Failure and Friends show on the 1st February and our show with Shadow Promotions DIY on 5th April, which we support the amazing Darko. Some exciting shows coming up.
And of course, the recording of Failures, Vol 3! Hopefully, haha”
