Riff Police! Pull Over! #94: Carcass Vs Origin

Recorded at Studio One in Racine Wisconsin in 2001 and released in June 2002 via Relapse Records, “Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas” is the sophomore album from American Technical Death Metallers Origin. Hailing from Topeka Kansas and formed in 1997, they’re known for heavy use of sweep picking, arpeggios and blast beats not to mention brutal growling vocals and rapid fire tempo changes. If evidence was ever needed that persistence is key, then Origin are that band, having made what is considered to be their breakthrough with album number #4 they’ve gone on from strength to strength since. However listening to the album you may notice something familiar about mid album monster “Meat For The Beast“. Rewind the clock back to 1991 and  “Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious”. The third album from pioneers of the Goregrind genre Carcass saw now Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott in the fold for the first time as they continued to grow into Death Metal. Amott was given writing credits for a pair of songs in “Corporal Jigsore Quandary” and “Incarnated Solvent Abuse” and it’s the latter that Origin guitarists Jeremy Turner and Paul Ryan have been influenced by… …which reminds us. 7th August will see the follow up to 2103’s “Surgical Steel” appear from Carcass. It will be going by the name “Torn Arteries“, which was the name of a fictitious band that original drummer Ken Owen created as a solo project in his teens…
