Riff Police! Pull Over! #96: Benevolent Like Quietus Vs Metallica!

“…And of things that will bite, Sleep with one eye open, Gripping your pillow tight…” Amazing isn’t it? The things that become a subliminal influence. There can’t be many Metal Heads that don’t know the black self titled album from Metallica pretty well and there can’t be many guitarists who didn’t learn lead single “Enter Sandman” at some point in their early years. Dealing with Children’s nightmares about horrible family secrets, the 1991 hit was certified platinum as producer Bob Rock helped them crack the mainstream. Ironically, while it was one of the first pieces of music written for the album, it was one of the last to have lyrics and musically it has been compared to “Tapping into the Emotional Void” by Excel. 29 long years later and “Kill The Bliss“, the debut album from Calgary, Canada Goth Rock-influenced Melodic Metallers Benevolent Like Quietus appears on our radar. As we ink the review and opening track “The Beginning of An End” plays out, we notice that end of riff turn around that suddenly has us singing the lyrics to “Enter Sandman” rather than the chorus of this one. But don’t just take our word for it, check it out for yourself!
