Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Helmet.

Formed in 1989, Alternative Metal act Helmet have had just one consistent member in 31 years, the almighty Page Hamilton. Immortalised by the Evergreen Terrace track “Chaney Can’t Quite Riff Like Page Hamilton” it was their second studio album in 1992 entitled “Meantime” which has become their most influential, largely in its wake. The album was recorded by Steven Albini, the man behind “In Utero” by Nirvana and it’s opening track “In The Meantime” is the subject of today’s head to head.

In the Red Corner we have Grindcore titans Pig Destroyer who covered the track for their compilation “Painter Of Dead Girls” in 2004. A 20 minute, 17 track affair, it’s absolutely vicious. The same year, Soulfly dropped a of the same track on their fourth studio album “Prophecy“, first to feature former Ill Nino lead guitarist Marc Rizzo, who has subsequently featured on almost all of Max Cavalera’s projects. Who wins? You decide!
