Vs Tuesday: One Song! Two Bands! Who Wins?! FIGHT! 1979!

One of The Smashing Pumpkins most well known songs, “1979” was released in 1996 as the second single from their third studio album “Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness“, an epic collection of songs released as a double album, a very rare commodity in the years to come. The narrative is a nostalgic one and the song is the opposing force to the abrasive “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” in the context of the album.

In the red corner we have Progressive Metallers The Contortionist who recorded their version for their 2019 EP “Our Bones“. It may have had just two new songs, an ambient interlude and the cover itself but the Indianapolis Indiana titans have always been about quality rather than quality. Boston Massachusetts residents Bad Rabbits recorded their version of the track for their 2011 “Cover Sessions” EP alongside Deftones and Michael Jackson and The Dream reworks. They celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their debut EP “Stick Up Kids” this year and appeared at the Vans Warped tour in 2011 and 2014. Who Wins? You decide!
