Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”!

A lot is made of the rise of the 80’s Pop cover in todays Metal scene. A huge array of bands have taken on the challenge with varying degrees of success. We always think that those who do a cover best are those that put their own spin on it. But hey, what do we know?! Today’s head to head is comprised of a pair of bands covering “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by English Pop-Rockers Tears For Fears. The song is from the bands sophomore album released in 1985 entitled “Songs From The Big Chair”, their best selling album to date. It’s one that spawned 6x International Hit Singles including “Shout” which Disturbed covered on their 2000 Nu-Metal major label debut “The Sickness” that went 5x Platinum.

First up to the plate in the Red corner we have Glass Cloud. Their cut of the track appeared on the “Take Action” compilation series and was released between their debut full length and it’s follow up EP “Perfect War Forever”. Whether they will release any further material now that 3 of their members are in Emmure remains to be seen. In the Blue corner? Signed to Ghost Killer Entertainment are Mountain Estates, an energetic post-hardcore and Alt. Rock quintet from Monmouth in Wales and fronted by Adam Barkley. They dropped the deluxe version of their “Lovely People” EP in June to include their cover. Who wins? You decide!
