Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! NIN.

Taking influence from Industrial Metal, in 1992 the recording which helped to propel Nine Inch Nails into mainstream popularity was EP “Broken“, although with the addition of a pair of bonus tracks on the re-released after the first 250k copies edition giving it 8 tracks and a run time approaching 32 minutes some might say it qualifies as an album. It later received two Grammy Awards in the “Best Metal Performance” category for the songs “Wish” and “Happiness in Slavery” as it changed gear introducing a heavier sound in a step away from debut “Pretty Hate Machine” and was shrouded in controversy. Mastermind Trent Reznor fought with label TVT, members of collaborative project Pigface over his work with them on single “Suck” and then there is the leaked Horror Musical film of the same name directed by Peter Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle and Coil fame..

So to todays obituaries. In the Red Corner we have Device, a one album Industrial Metal project between Disturbed frontman David Draiman and Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo. The cut appeared as a bonus track on the record which features a myriad of guests including Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, Serj Tankian of System Of A Down and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. In the Blue Corner we have Kill Theory, a Northern Californian Nu-Metal outfit who create music with synths and crunchy riffs as a catharsis, channelling their past experiences and struggles with of loss and addiction with fist clenched resilience. Who Wins? You decide!
