Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Rainbow.
When taking on a classic that everyone knows, wanting to put your own spin on it takes some serious thought. You want to keep the original recognisable while at the same time wanting fans and friends to appreciate what you’ve done with it, without claiming that you’ve simply destroyed it.
So Sorcerer guitarist Kristian Niemann put took himself from the mindset of Richie Blackmore of Rainbow and instead imaged what “Gates Of Babylon” would sound like if it was written by Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi while the band came to the decision to cut the keyboard part. Their rendition is today’s Red Corner. International Symphonic Metal project Suncrown, forged in 2011 by songwriter and keyboardist Oleg Biblyi (Ukraine) and vocalist Darren Crisp (USA) and likewise having a Black Sabbath cover of their own in the locker chose this one for themselves and is our Blue Corner. They dropped “Invincible” in February which is a piece of epic grandeur of gargantuan proportions. Who wins? You decide!
