It takes a lot of guts to cover a much loved and well known classic. In our eyes at least, the finest covers are those that find the musicians taking it on putting their own spin on the original and making it their own rather than doing a note for note remake that sounds identical to the original but there are some songs where that’s a risky business. You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t, essentially preaching to the converted in your existing fan base rather than looking to win over newbies if you don’t get it quite right.
