The Black Map #259: Fall of Saturn from London!
A feature dedicated to sharing the knowledge about bands in the United Kingdom Underground Metal scene, The Black Map returns for it’s 259th not quite as consecutive as we’d like week to talk about Fall Of Saturn. Hailing from London, the Groove Metal quartet announced themselves to an unsuspecting World in August 2020. However due to the great plague years it wasn’t until October 2022 that first single “MathemEthic” mixed and mastered by Singularity Studio (Automatic Extenders, Hadadanza Séptimo Ángel) reared its ugly head. Choosing to have more of an organic feel the band turned their back on any ideas of incorporating programming, synths or samples and instead opted for a Sludge Metal guitar tone and rhythmic drive as the foundation of their sound. Perhaps that is what comes of having a few grey hairs in the beards, when being trendy is no longer a requirement and just doing something for the love of it feels right. Fast forward three months to January 2023 and they announced their first gig, taking part in a weekender titled January Ends alongside Concrete Age, Feed The Wolves and Die Kur. It was April before they returned to the stage, this time alongside Die Ego and Struck/Down, all the while building the momentum in the background for a second single in “Knowledge Is Power“. A cut with an infectious energy and impactful lyrics, the band have created something that showcases their musicianship while remaining what they wanted to create, strictly on their own terms. It hits like a freight train with undeniable sing-a-long ability that will no doubt open many doors and a few windows…
