Exclusive Interview: Killerkorp talk “Vices”!

A nightmarish vision of Blackened Hardcore fused to a Death Metal skeleton, Killerkorp unveiled a sophomore EP in “Vices” five years after it’s predecessor “Pain” last month. One for the long awaited, highly anticipated category, the record was preceded by a run of shows as the band sharpened their teeth and made one hundred and ten percent sure before they committed their atrocities to tape. Now that the dust has settled, we got talking to them about the record and everything that surrounded it and the conversation went something like this…

It has been three years since your last audio confession in single “Death Day”, so what made you decide to dust down your instruments, get back into the rehearsal space and put together a sophomore EP? “We took the time to discover ourselves in terms of sound and the message we wanted to put across. We wanted to make music that counted and that could beat Death Day and we feel like we have done that with Vices, spending time on our music and just experimenting with the possibilities, improving as players along the way”

Having played shows with Raised by Owls, Celestial Sanctuary and Beyond Extinction in recent times, did you have any nerves about how “Vices” would be received? What are your memories of those shows? When we debuted Vices, we knew the reaction would be savage, we purposely wrote the song to showcase many moshing opportunities. The song being emotionally charged we knew the audience would connect with it one way or another. We are always nervous showcasing new stuff, but we thrive off that feeling and it helps us keep moving forward. New music is exciting.”

You’ve described the new EP as being your proudest body of work; how do you feel about your well received debut “Pain” at this point? “We were a lot younger when Pain was written and recorded, we didn’t understand how important production was, but we wouldn’t change it for the world, it’s the EP that expressed our angst and attitude to the world and the production just how we did not care what people thought of us, we just wanted to rock out.”

If we’re the product of our genes and our influences, who are your influences and what are in your jeans?Slipknot, Machine Head, Pantera, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge are huge influences on us, they have cemented the foundation of what we know about heavy music, but we are continuing to discover more every day to help aid our creation. Modern bands such as Malevolence, Guilt Trip, Knocked Loose, Callous daoboys and many more have aided in the creation of the new Killerkorp

What are your aspirations for 2025? Touring Europe? Playing a major festival? Gain an endorsement? Appear on the cover of Metal Hammer Magazine? “We aspire to continue making music for our listeners as we feel like we need to keep giving more savage tunes. 3 years is too long to wait for new music. We would love to play more shows around the country and gain a name for ourselves in the scene”

What’s next for Killerkorp? We have a couple of shows lined up in the year and we are currently hitting the rehearsal space to make more tunes

Vices” by Killerkorp is out now and you can find it everywhere you’d expect it to be
