NEWS: Brotthogg share the tale of “Pesta”!

If you missed it a couple of weeks back, Norwegian Progressive Black Metal act Brotthogg have given us a timely reminder of their new album “Ved Veis Ende” with a lyric video for “Pesta” cut from it. That also comes with a full English lyrical translation for those not familiar with the language of their homeland and its folklore.

The band comment: “In Norwegian folklore, Pesta is the personification of the Black Death – a dark, wandering figure bringing plague and death. She was said to carry either a rake or a broom: with the rake, a few might survive; with the broom, entire villages were wiped out. Pesta became a symbol of doom and inevitability. The track “Pesta” channels this heavy, grim presence – a slow, crushing piece that reflects her merciless march through plague-ridden Norway”

English lyric translation:

When evening sun dies behind the hills,
and creeping shadows crawl along the stone,
she drags herself forth, bound by death,
ancient, bent, her skin grayed and torn.

So vile, so horrid, she stalks the night,
eyes that roll, that bleed, that pierce the soul.
Her visage ghastly, wrinkled, jaundiced,
heavy in step, yet relentless in course.

Far and farther she prowls the lands,
sweeping through the homesteads with rake and broom. The rake takes many, the broom claims all,
a sign of fate enfolded in death’s embrace.

Life snuffs out, one by one,
as the plague demands its due.
When the valley stands empty, and the people have fled, farm and earth remain—alone, desolate, cursed.
