NEWS: Torture Squad love to skate!

Directed by Rodrigo Borrero of Agência Brasila at the historic Pista de Skate da Saúde in São Paulo, one of the most traditional landmarks of the city’s underground scene, a music video for “Buried Alive” by Brazilian Death Metal outfit Torture Squad has surfaced. Vocalist Mayara Puertas comments: “I wrote the lyrics to ‘Buried Alive’ while I was actually having a panic attack, so it was a real outburst. People tend to downplay the suffering of those who face these illnesses, often believing that taking medication is enough, that it’s a lack of effort, or even a lack of ‘God,’ as I’ve heard a few times. It’s a constant struggle, and in this song I describe what it was like to go through all of that.”

Drummer Amílcar Christófaro comments: “Skateboarding and metal have always gone hand in hand, and that’s still true today. The Pista da Saúde came as a gift to the neighborhood skaters—by the time it was inaugurated in 1994, I was already stopping skating because of the band. I only really got to enjoy it later. I remember watching Suicidal Tendencies videos and going crazy wanting to make a TS video with skateboarding. The moment has arrived, and with a very powerful message from May.
