Riff Police: Pull Over! #1: Avenged Sevenfold Vs Metallica!
So in this new feature for a Thursday, we’re going to put together a head to head whereby one bands song is clearly *ahem* influenced by another to the point of plagiarism. For the opening salvo of this little number, were going to go back to 2013. Metallica’s huge self-titled album aka “The Black Album” had been around since 1991, a massive anthemic beast that influenced many far and wide. “Sad But True” has one of the most recognised riffs in Modern Metal.
So when Avenged Sevenfold released “This Means War” from their 2013 album “Hail to the King” many eyebrows were raised. Yes, *ahem* it is sad but true. That riff is taken.
