The Black Map #39: Higher Power from Leeds!

Continuing our journey across The Black Map of the UK Underground Metal Scene, we head North to Leeds. When you’ve got an alternative rock scene with bands like Dinosaur Pile Up, Kaiser Chiefs & The Sisters of Mercy, you have to do something to stand out from the crowd.

That’s something Leeds Harcore quintet Higher Power have done with “Soul Structure”. Their debut full length album has earned them tours with Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, Terror and in February they will be out with Vein. Recorded by Misha Hering at Holy Mountain and released in May 2017 via Flatspot Records, the album sports a Mastering by Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust fame. The album itself reeks of the spirit of the 80s hardcore sound but brings it right up to date. All the classic hallmarks are there, gang chants, a fusion of the East Coast Hardcore guitars with some of the riffier crossover Thrash influence of Suicidal Tendencies and of course a positive, high energy performance. Higher Power are a band that deserve your attention.
