Riff Police! Pull Over! #55: The Haunted vs Avenged Sevenfold!

As a sort of a joke, The Haunted released “Made Me Do It” on 30th June 2000 so it becomes “The Haunted Made Me Do It”. Get it? Maybe after a couple of 10 shots of Jägermeister that becomes hilarious. Who knows? It’s the album that Bury Your Dead famously took their name from having had the album playing on the way to their first practice session and thinking it sounds cool. The bands second album saw a move away from the Thrashier tones of the bands self titled debut and a move towards the Gothenburg sound and surprisingly won a Swedish Grammy for Best Rock Album despite being… distinctly Heavy Metal.

We all know who Avenged Sevenfold are. They’ve featured a few times in this very feature. The question is, is the riff from “Trespass” by The Haunted the one that eventually becomes “Unholy Confessions”? They mention At The Gates as an influence so there is every possibility. But what do we know? Live a little and check them both out.
