Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Earth Crisis!
Originally formed in Syracuse New York in 1989 and having a six year hiatus between 2001 and 2007, American Hardcore Punks Earth Crisis are widely considered one of the crucial influences for both the Metalcore genre and vegan straight edge movement. Known for their social awareness and for addressing political issues as much as their music is one thing but to promote a straight edge and vegan lifestyle on top of that is another. Rewinding the clock back to 1993, the band had written a demo version of “Firestorm” which they shipped out to labels, but there was some resistance to the track due to its lyrical themes, especially after the backlash around “Cop Killer” by Body Count the year before. The EP was picked up by Victory Records after a live show and the title track wound up being the bands most recognised work. To talk about influence, “Firestorm” has been covered by Refused, Botch, Maroon and Embrace Today to name but four seminal acts in their own right…
In the Red Corner we have Feel The Burn, who recorded their version of the track for their album “Progression” on 2017. In the Blue Corner we have Italians Traces Of You, who covered the track back in 2010 as they shared a stage with Deez Nuts and The Ghost Inside. Since then they have a pair of albums in “Bleed The Truth” and “Deliverance” that demand attention in their own right. Who wins? You decide!
