Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! STP.

In 1993 MTV recorded a set from San Diego Grunge band Stone Temple Pilots for their iconic Unplugged series. During the set the band played a new song that was cut from the aired performance but when the track featured on the soundtrack of The Crow, a film starting Brandon Lee and based on a comic book by James O’Barr, it resurfaced and was given significant airplay on the channel. The track in question is “Big Empty“, a mournful and somber tale that eventually wound up on the bands sophomore album “Purple” having been recorded at The Record Plant in New York City, famous for being a studio at which Kiss, Metallica and Guns ‘n Roses have all created works. Rest in peace Scott Weiland.

In the red corner, we have have Saint Asonia, a supergroup of sorts who feature in their ranks members and former member of Three Days Grace, Staind and Art Of Dying. They performed the track while on tour in 2015, shortly before the tragic death of the then former Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland. In the blue corner we have Los Angeles Californian Alternative Metallers Gemini Syndrome who did their version for Octane Radio. In 2017 they announced that former Coal Chamber guitarist Miguel “Meegs” Rascón had joined their ranks and according to a video they released on social media in December 2019, they have a third studio album due out this very year… Who wins? You decide!
