Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Offspring.

Ahhhhh, it’s time to relax, And you know what that means, A glass of wine, your favourite easy chair, And of course this compact disc playing and your home stereo. So go on, indulge yourself, That’s right, kick off your shoes, put your feet up, Lean back and just enjoy the melodies. After all, music soothes even the savage beasts

The Offspring are one of those bands that have a tendency to divide opinion; not because there is anything wrong with their music, just that the contrast between some of the more socially aware lyrics and some of their more comedic moments doesn’t fit well together for some people. That being said, they’ve sold over 40 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling punk rock bands in history. So today we’ve plucked one of their most socially aware cuts in “The Kids Aren’t Alright“, an allusion to The Who song “The Kids Are Alright” from their “My Generation” record to put two covers head to head. A track that tells the stories of several people who grew up in a small town and the problems that they fell into; it tells the truth that lies beneath the surface of the bright future and the American dream that the rest of the World sees from the outside looking in. In the red corner we have Evergreen Terrance; a band who fuse together hardcore, punk and metalcore in the best way possible. They did their version for a covers album called “Writers Block” back in 2020, which still remains one of the finer covers albums around. In the blue corner we have Miss Fortune who themselves have delivered a variety of covers over the course of their career; their appearance on the “Florence + The Sphyinx: Sumerian Ceremonials – A Tribute Sumerian Records to Florence + The Machine” being one of the finer ones. Who Wins? You Decide!
