The Black Map #135: Lenged Out from Southampton!

The south coast has provided a fertile soil for Metal bands to grow over with a number of decent venues for bands to gain a fan base as well as bigger venues for international bands to offer some inspiration. Southampton offers The Loft, Engine Rooms, The Joiners and that’s just for starters, three venues that we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing everyone from Attila to Oceans Ate Alaska and Heart of a Coward decimating the opposition and we haven’t even mentioned Suburbia. Having decent venues means that bands like Lenged Out who bend Beatdown and Metallic Hardcore to share stages with the likes of God Complex, MTXS and Malign having just one single in “Dethroned” out beforehand. They’ve since dropped their debut EP “Lunaris” which also features single “Nihilus” and was recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Adam Cox (Dreameater, Plead, Old Boy) at ACO Studios. Guitarist Joseph Shaw’s guitar teacher happens to once have been a member of Carcass and the band have also got some business nous about them, running a clothing and promotions company called Acid Drop Activities. It provides the fuel for the band because let’s face it, as a musician you need to be an entrepreneur to get ahead these days, Chris Fronzak being a prime example.
