Riff Police! Pull Over! #134: Bring Me The Horizon Vs Deftones!

Having already done the rounds at this point, we just feel like we had to have another poke at the hornets nest that has surrounded Bring Me The Horizon since 2015’s “That’s The Spirit“. Why? Because we’re angry bears who were so disheartened by the records that the band released after the departure of I Killed The Prom Queen guitarist Jona Weinhofen (well “Sempiternal” or “Sleeping Turtle” as it’s known in some parts is alright) that we felt abandoned. But then that’s what happens when a band decide they want to be a gateway band for Rock, rip up the script and start over; a style shift to self destruction however didn’t happen. Their latest offering is entitled “Post Human: Survival Horror” and much to our surprise features in part, a heavier sound. Unfortunately for them, “Dear Diary” by Bring Me The Horizon stands out like a sore thumb after it’s been hit by a hammer on a building site. Why? Because guitarist Lee Malia, who incidentally we have the upmost respect for as he’s stuck with it through thick and thin, has accidentally taken a riff from inked by Stephen Carpenter from the mighty Deftones in “Swerve City” from “Koi No Yokan” and developed it. He’s made it more complex and added some nuance to it, which is really impressive. Not on purpose mind, before anyone jumps into the comments. He’s a fan and we respect that. Don’t believe us? Check it out for yourself.
