Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Wellerman.

TikTok being a trending social media platform during the Great Plague lead to the return of the sea shanty “Soon May the Wellerman Come“, otherwise simply known as “Wellerman” thanks to The Longest Johns and Nathan Evans. The song itself originates as far back as 1860, a well known whaling song originating in New Zealand and referring to the supply ships of the Weller Brothers that brought sugar, tea and rum to exploited workers…

Thanks partly to the rise in Pirate Metal acts in recent years, we all love a sea shanty and despite Alestorm not getting onboard with this one, we still have a fine pair to put head to head. In the red corner we have Matt Heafy of Trivium who is joined by Livia Zita; a strong pairing with Heafy delivering some decent riffs. What’s lacking is an accompanying video, but we’re sure he’ll accommodate as soon as the fancy dress shop is open. In the blue corner we have multi-instrumentalist Leo Moracchioli from Frog Leap studios in Norway, whose weekly Metalized covers have kept us thoroughly entertained. Who wins? The Wellerman can decide!
