Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Into The Pit #2!

When you talk about Metal anthems, you don’t need to look much further “Into The Pit” by Testament. The Bay Area Thrash titans have long been hailed as members of an elite group of bands alongside Metallica, Exodus and Annihilator as influencers of generations of musicians and let’s face it, if there was no “The New Order” in 1988, there would be no Lamb Of God. The album itself broke the band into Thrash Metal mainstream and this cut alongside the title track and “Disciples of the Watch” remain in the bands live set to this day.

So to our head to head. In the Red Corner, “Into the Pit” was covered by The Absence for their 2007 album “Riders of the Plague“. That band feature in their ranks members of Hot Graves, Venom Inc, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy and Massacre and made a return with “Coffinized” via M-Theory Audio earlier this summer. In the Blue Corner we have Prototype who did their version in 1996 for a tribute album called “Jump Into The Pit” (perhaps also a reference to 1983’s “Jump in the Fire” by Metallica?) dropped via Dwell Records. Who Wins? You decide!
