Throwback: “Arise” by Sepultura!
Rewinding the tape thirty years to 1991 and the fourth studio album from Sepultura is where we find ourselves. The band chose Scott Burns (Decide, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary) who was a vital cog in the wheel in the Florida Death Metal scene to produce at his home studio giving the album a huge step up in sound quality while having someone of the calibre of Andy Wallace (Slayer, Nirvana, Gojira) doing the mixing was a masterstroke. Critically acclaimed, the album saw more experimentation with a slow down in the bands previously noted high velocity riffing to make way for more groove, Latin percussive moments and tribal drumming styles appearing for the first time ad well as Hardcore Punk influences being worn on the bands collective sleeves. Its endurance as a classic remains undisputed with cuts like “Dead Embryonic Cells” remaining not only a fans favourite but a regular in the bands live set to this day. so here’s the video for the title track to start the week right.
