The Black Map #219: MisophoniA from Glasgow!
Some people call this feature a Sunday Service introducing new bands to our readership but we call it a hangover cure, a little light reading while you suck down a boiling hot cup of coffee and a couple of asprin before remembering the antics of the night before. Heading two hundred and ninety miles north from Birmingham to Glasgow for this week’s entry in our black book of dark deeds, we trade the Cinematic DJent of Vanitas for the alchemy of MisophoniA, a band who take elements of Doom, Melodic Death, Black Metal and even Thrash to create art in their own musical language.
By definition MisophoniA literally means “hatred of sound” and is a condition in which individuals experience intense and often over the top reaction to sounds made by other people, for example chewing, lip smacking, pen tapping or repetitive movement can cause anger and disgust. So perhaps the moniker they have chosen for themselves reflects their hatred towards the sounds other bands are making and a burning desire to create their own to right those wrongs… or maybe it’s just the way in which they perceive others will react to their music. The quintet can’t be doing that much wrong however with single “El Silencio SerĂ¡ Eterno” catching the ear of Sliptrick Records who subsequently signed them to a two year deal for a currently being worked on debut album. The writing process for that may have been delayed slightly by the departure of long time guitarist Neil Dunnachie, who has now been replaced by John Perry but the band have stated that the material is waiting in the wings. They started out in 2017 and have four EPs to their name, over 80 minutes of raw material that has carried them around Scotland in search of mythical creatures while ensuring that they will never be a carbon copy of any of their vast array of influences…
