The Black Map #252: Tape It Shut from Reading! (Summer Bash V Edition)
Bristol, Leeds and Southampton are just three of the Cities that will have bands descending like Vultures on Reading in on 22nd July as the Facebar is turned into Hawaiian themed beach party by their hosts Progressive Death Metal trio Mercury’s Well for Summer Bash V. It’s the fifth anniversary of the annual tomfoolery which will find bassist James Tiffin attempting to drop guest vocals on a chorus of a cut with every single band, impromptu conga lines and perhaps even the cancan from as the crowd embrace the spirit(s) of fun with a show that is always a hilarious good crack. There will be eleven bands and here’s the line up in full…
Tape It Shut
One Last Day
Black Emerald
Hundred Year Old Man
Tribe Of Ghosts
Mercury’s Well
Treehouse
Perp Walk
Masquerader
Buds
Pteroglyph
…those bands maybe invading the Reading territory but they won’t be doing so without a fight from the locals and Tape It Shut are a Punk Rock trio who can hold their own and make their presence felt during the shenanigans. Known for the live energy and sing-a-long choruses the band have been dropping EPs like bombshells since 2015 with tongue in cheek humour laced with a politically and socially aware edge. A little bit satirical you might say, with song titles like “Thank F*** For Toilets“, “Pandora’s Box Of Sex Toys” and “Super Rapid Fire Free Money Game” probably telling you all you need to know about the brain of guitarist and vocalist Dan Tape. Inspired by Frenzal Rhomb, Sonic Boom Six and Random Hand, they’ve been sharing stages with everyone from The Freudian Session to Old Chase and so have all the experience they need to ensure everyone has a good time. Expect a couple of lethal pick slides and some anti establishment rhetoric and you’ll be fine. We promise.
