Exclusive Interview: InAir talk Reading Rising IV!

As the fourth incarnation of Reading Rising is on the horizon for 18th November at The Facebar in Reading, we asked Alternative Rock trio InAir if they’d kindly take a few minutes out of their busy schedule to have a conversation about what’s going on in their world. If you’re unfamiliar, they draw from a wide range of influences as covers of Linkin Park, Blink 182 and Good Charlotte testify to, with a love of an arena sized chorus and electronic atmospheres to set them apart from the pack. That conversation went something like this…

Let’s start by talking about InAir as a band. You’ve released a trio of singles recently that have surpassed 80k of Spotify streams alone between them thus far. Do you find the response to the new material inspiring after seven years as a band?

Aaron (guitars): “The response has been incredible to be honest! With releasing these 3 singles we really wanted to focus our efforts on getting a greater streaming reach and with the help/advice of Bad Apple Music we have really surpassed our own expectations. It is really rewarding to put all the hard work in and know someone somewhere in the world is actually listening”

You’ve appeared at three of the four Reading Rising one day festivals. What has playing the event done for you as a band? Looking back at the previous incarnations and bands like Forlorn and TheCityIsOurs who have gone on to do some big things, does it make you proud to have been a part of it?

Joe (vocals, bass) : “Running and playing the event has helped the band for sure. It’s allowed us to connect with bands who are doing well, booking agents and various types of media. And yes it also has been great to see the successes of bands who have played the event in the past for example As Everything Unfolds who played the festival in 2019 have since played at Download Festival amongst other major festivals throughout Europe”

Back in 2019 your EP “Dreamful” received a review in Kerrang! Magazine earning a triple K. That must be one of the highlights of your career? How do you feel looking back at that now? What have been some of the other great moments for InAir?

Connor (drums): “Being in Kerrang! was absolutely a highlight as I read it loads when I was a kid so growing up to see a band I was in there was amazing, same as our interview on BBC Introducing. In terms of gigs, supporting Arcane Roots, booking Press To MECO, and Our Hollow, Our Home are all personal highlights for me”

What would mean more to you as a band at this point in time, the opportunity to play 12 shows around the UK with a band like You Win Again Gravity or to follow Confessions Of A Traitor as play a run of DIY shows in the US or Canada?

Aaron: “Both opportunities would be amazing. I think I would slightly edge towards playing the shows in the US / Canada. There isn’t a lot of money in music so most of the time the goal is new and/or awesome experiences, so I think playing and seeing some different countries would be an amazing time to be had”

When it comes to your live show, what can the fans expect at Reading Rising? Might you unveil a new song or a cheeky cover?

Connor: “We’ve talked recently about whether we should add a cover back into the set but we haven’t given ourselves that long a set, but I can say that our production for the show will be the biggest we’ve ever run which should make up for it.”

What’s next for InAir?

Joe: “A couple more shows to still announce before Reading Rising 2023 and lots more song writing for the next release. We are unsure if it will be another run of singles or another EP but we’re happy with what we have been working on so far”
