Review: “Biological Genocide” by Parasite Disciple

Creators of Brutal Death Metal with a side order of Deathgrind from Jacksonville Florida, Parasite Disciple are a four piece consisting of guitarist Ben Davis, vocalist Brian Fitzgerald, bassist Stan Martell and drummer Zach Lindsey. Taking the tried, tested and true route to “Biological Genocide“, which follows their 2023 debut “Auditory Hallucinations“, the outfit have their bassist to thank once again for his work behind the boards. Martell (Fall Of Envy, Grandpa’s Cough Medicine, Black Aura) handled recording, mixing and mastering at Martell AVP Audio Video Productions in Kingsland, Georgia because who else are both current and former members of Cystic Dysentery going to trust when the chips are down and everything is laid bare?

Imagine if you will, the sound that the Zombies make as you pour boiling oil upon their skulls from the ramparts of your fortified stronghold. That’s the sound of the brutal roar that vocalist Fitzgerald offers up at the start of “Call of the Void“, an ominous presentation of sinister groove orientated Death Metal with bursts of Slam inspired vocals keep you on the edge of your seat. The skull hammering doesn’t stop there either with the switch between the usual urgent bark and those Slam inspired parts coming with alarming regularity. Razor sharp riffs with a hint at the style of bands like Twitch Of The Death Nerve run through the veins of the record, the pair of fleeting Blackened Hardcore style bass solos during “Blind Eye” a nice touch. Mid-tempo rage that focuses of ominous atmospherics with is the order of the day with this one, rapid fire tempo shifts adding to the unsettling dark hellscape.

The punches keep coming with “Scorched Horizon“, a churning onslaught of vim and vigour that describes the end of humanity during an apocalyptic event at the hands of an apex predator sent for ultimate destruction. It could easily be part of the soundtrack to the next low budget horror movie to reach the big screen because the band capture the imagination with the combination of the lyrical narrative and the intensity of their performance. An ocean of feedback serves as a warning before an blast beats and a blood curdling roar introduce “The Abysmal Feeding” in brutal style. Another bass solo, this time sandwiched between staccato riff breaks gives the track a nice verve and swagger, the powerhouse Death Metal explosions of furious rage wearing 90’s Florida scene influences on their sleeves. Closing on the title track “Biological Genocide” with the shrill scream of the impaled is an interesting move as another tale of humanity being wiped from existence unfolds. Demonic death growled vocals over the top of body slamming rhythmic battery makes this a stone cold winner, the churn and burn riffs having power, poise and purpose [7.5/10]
