The Black Map #224: BrainBath from Glasgow!
From the aural delights to Iron Tomb from Birmingham, we head North for the next entry in our black book of the Metal Underground scene which places the FBI interrogation spotlight firmly on the lesser lights of heaven and provides them with some much needed attention, which is essentially what Metal Noise is all about. Written at the South Coast where the waves meet the shoreline and accompanied by the flavours of Asahi Super Dry Japanese Lager this is one to savour. Wait. Joining the Scottish Death Metal resurgence (or should that be resurrection?) that the likes of Metal Hammer Magazine like to describe as “The New Wave Of Scottish Death Metal” that includes bands like Penny Coffin and Chestcrush joining already established acts like Scordatura and Hellripper are the mighty BrainBath. Their self titled debut EP sold out of a limited edition of 12″ Blood Red vinyl before they even left the pressing plant, finding them not only entering the morgue during the witching hour but injecting venom into the corpses to reanimate them and begin the Zombie Apocalypse. While the scene itself has been building momentum at a rapid pace with fresh ideas and a new found bloodlust, BrainBath have been fortunate enough to play sold out shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh in support of bands like Nervosa and Burning Witches. Taking a self proclaimed DIY or DIE attitude and inspired by the so called golden age of the grotesque era of the genre in bands like Entombed, Obituary and Hellhammer listening to the record is like listening to Municipal Waste playing Death Metal, front loaded with horror inspired tongue in cheek humour accompanied by a plethora of riffs to boogie to…
