Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Spit.

Their can’t be many people on Planet Metal who don’t know the true underdog story of David and Goliath. There are a few different variations on the basic tale, but essentially a warrior Giant changes Saul for 40 days to send out a man to fight him. No one would dare, until David, armed only with a sling and stones, took on the challenge. In our rendition, the Giant is a Cyclops and David hits him square pupil of his eye which kills him. That might seem like a tenuous link but often in this feature it’s something which is very relevant as we put head to head huge bands and and minos to fight to the death with their renditions of the same cover. Make sense? Cool.

So in the Blood Red corner we take Poppy, a Sumerian Records signed solo artist who re-imagined “Spit” by Canadian Heavy Metal outfit Kittie. The title track of a largely well received Nu-Metal album it launched the career of the band orientated around the Lander sisters Morgan and Mercedes, which only got brutally more heavy from that point. Poppy’s rendition 90’s Industrial Metal inspired and at first many may not even have recognised as a cover. So that’s our Goliath cover. In the Blue Corner we have a rendition by Networks, a duo comprising Davey Nicewander and Shane Cyrus side project of West Virginia Metalcore merchants Curses recorded back in 2015. That’s our David cover. Who wins? You decide!
