Vs. Tuesday: One Song! Two Bands! Who Wins? FIGHT! “Roots Bloody Roots” Edition!
Released 22 years ago in February 1996, “Roots Bloody Roots” by Sepultura was the lead single from their legendary sixth studio album “Roots”. The album not only marked their collaboration with Ross Robinson but also their final album with their original line-up. Roadrunner Records made their name releasing albums like this one and it was a time when you knew without hearing the release, that if the cover art was good and it had the Roadrunner Records logo, it was going to be the business! “Roots” is not only a song that is played live by the current incarnation of Sepultura, but also by the former Brazilian Metallers frontman, Max Cavalera in both Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy at every single show since, it’s a live favourite. So much so that in 2016 at Canadian Festival Amnesia Rockfest both Sepultura and ‘Max & Igor Cavalera Back To ‘Roots” played the song!
But we’re here for two other bands. Firstly, in the red corner, we have Aguascalientes finest Mexican export Here Comes The Kraken, playing their version at Vive Latino Festival in 2015. They’ve got a new album on the way, having dropped new single “Wrong” last week!
In the blue corner, we have Orange County, California Hardcore veterans Throwdown bringing their version back to Sepultura’s home nation of Brazil in 2007! Throwdown released their first album in 4 years… 4 years ago with “Intolerance” via eOne Music before seemingly going back on hiatus. Who wins? You decide!
