The Black Map #73: Hundred Year Old Man from Leeds!

When some people talk you just listen and take heed of what they have to say. So when someone as important as Employed To Serve frontman Justine Jones, who also happens to be the label Manager Holyroar Records dropped 5 must hear British Metal bands for Kerrang Magazine, we were all ears. One of the bands she mentioned was Hundered Year Old Man of whom she said: “These guys supported us at our Huddersfield show a little while back and they absolutely killed it. It’s Metal with dark and brooding sounds similar to the likes SUMAC or Amenra“.

So we went and checked them out. They’re an ambient Post-Metal band with bits of Doom, Drone and Sludge in their eclectic mix of sounds whose self titled debut was originally released in 2015 and then re-released in February this year. Live they’re a 6 piece but they boast another 17 previous members and current collaborators in the project. Playing a 40 minute slot at Cork Ireland’s Monolith Festival earlier this summer in the middle of a 4 date run to critical acclaim, they’ve got shows in November and December while officially also looking for a new bassist. Filmed by Chaos Theory and edited by Adam Harris, above is the band playing “The Forrest” at The Black Heart in Camden in November 2018.
