The Black Map #195: Son Of Boar from Bradford!

Ah, it’s time to relax. You know what that means. A glass of wine, your favorite easy chair. And of course, this compact disc Playing on your home stereo. So, go on, and indulge yourself. That’s right, kick off your shoes. Put your feet up. Lean back and just enjoy the melodies. After all, music soothes even the savage beast” ~ Bryan Holland.

It’s Sunday. Which means it’s time to put a spotlight one one of the lesser lights of heaven, a band from the UK Underground Metal scene that needs to be loved, cherished, nurtured and bought beers when they appear at a post gig merch stand near you. They could have played to a venue of 30 or one of 400 but that’s not important, what is is that you enjoy it and spread the word, be that by picking up a t-shirt and wearing the fecker like a badge of honour or by plastering your love all over social media, liking, subscribing, commenting and streaming the life out of those tune and your ear drums. Because at the end of the day, in the internet age, it’s things like that which ultimately help said band secure bigger shows with bigger bands and get them on the progression ladder.

Five years ago, probably on a wet Wednesday night in a pub somewhere in the heart of the City of Bradford (ain’t artistic licence great ~ Ed) sat five Gentlemen planning World domination over a round of beers. Their weapon of choice a hard hitting blend of Stoner Doom Metal delivered with a serious gut punch. Since that day, towards the end of 2017, the band have gone from strength to strength having spent a year or so at the grindstone perfecting their skills before 2019’s critically acclaimed debut EP “A Tongueless Tale” surfaced for much need Oxygen. A three track, near 18 minute affair that not only carried the flag for the path that the band plan to take based on their Jeans and influences, but climbing over the picket fence and burying it in the middle of the Whitehouse Lawn. So good I fact that two cuts from it appear in live performance form on 2020 follow up “Stoned Wail“. Fast forward to 2021 and the band inked a deal with Off Ya Rocker Recordings, the home of London Metallers  merchants Enquire Within for a self titled half an hour of power. Do your ear drums a favour and if you like what you hear, they’ve announced a few shows for 2022 so far…
