The Black Map #221: Sidious from London!

Exchanging the bright lights of Glasgow for London’s streets paved with Gold for this week’s entry in our Black Map of the United Kingdom Underground Metal scene, it’s time to spend a few precious moments talking about the purveyors of Black Metal that are Sidious. In a career that is fast approaching a decade of destruction, Isfeth (guitars and vocals), Indomitus (guitars) and Baalrath (bass) have slowly chipped away at a granite block to create four monstrous gargoyles in their own image. With one notable exception in 2019’s “Temporal” they have maintained a relationship with Russ Russell (Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death, Amorphis) who has produced, mixed and mastered a trio of their records. The latest of their burnt offerings “Blackest Insurrection” found them unveiling drummer Valdr (Hecate Enthroned, Formicarius, Necronautical) for a record that finds them shaking their clenched fists under stormy skies with a career defining album that is wild and uncompromising in its pure defiance. If they sound like they float your boat after you burned your bridges then you can find their material everywhere that is worth the effort including bandcamp.
