Vocalist and guitarist Chris Underhill comments: “Leech… 4 years since we released Failures Vol:1, It’s hard to believe that it was the EP that got things moving for us. Recorded in [Sore Teeth frontman and guitarist] Ross Walker’s house, this was our first stab of recording and probably the only four songs that we all knew together at that time.
The big hitter on that EP was Lies, it was the single track, it has the most streams etc but Leech… is the song I secretly preferred. Well, not a secret now. Haha. For me Leech ticks all the boxes, it’s punchy, aggressive and super catchy. It’s a song you would expect to hear on a warped tour compilation or on Tony Hawk’s pro skater, it has that 90’s/00’s punk rock feel to it.
For a long time now we have ended our live set with Leech. We start with Lies end with Leech, just like our Vol:1 EP, there is no real reason for it, it just feels right. It’s one of those songs I can find energy for, even of I am completely beat. I just enjoy playing it.
Right, here come the fun facts;
Leech is the song we usually soundcheck with. When we soundcheck at Bay-Fest last year we played it so well even Jamie said it was our best performance of it. Well, not in those exact words.
The song itself is about being strung on by someone, pulling on your heart strings to get what they want, before moving on. Basically, someone who uses other people… aka Leech.
Originally the song was going to be called Angel Faced With A Taste Of Suicide but felt Leech described it better… and less like a Fall Out Boy / Panic! At The Disco song from 2005.
Not only Leech but Failures Vol:1 will always have a place in my heart. Recording and releasing it was big milestone for me and I’m very proud of it and for what we have achieved since. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to listen to and support My Latest Failure, really means the world to me”
