The Black Map #249: Pteroglyph from Leeds (Summer Bash V Edition)
At the end of the United Kingdom rainy season affectionately known as April, after you’ve stopped shoving your face with all the chocolatey goodies of Easter, it’s time to look ahead to the summer. We’re not talking about getting beach body ready (whatever that means) or making sure last years sunglasses are where you think you left them (they’re not), oh no. We’re talking about getting your ducks in a row and buying some tickets for festivals and one dayers which make life that much more… dare we say it, fun. So while you’re throwing out that bottle of suntan lotion that looks a (and smells) a funny shade of off green, get your phone out, click the link at the bottom of this article and get yourself (and your mates) a ticket to Summer Bash V. Why? It’s the fifth anniversary edition of the annual Hawaiian themed beach party at the Face Bar in Reading hosted by Progressive Death Metal trio Mercury’s Well and come 22nd July it’s going to see no less than eleven bands playing cuts you want to hear! Here’s the line up in full…
Tape It Shut
One Last Day
Black Emerald
Hundred Year Old Man
Tribe Of Ghosts
Mercury’s Well
Treehouse
Perp Walk
Masquerader
Buds
Pteroglyph
So who the f*** are Pteroglyph and why should you get your ass down to Sumer Bash V to see them? Well… they’re a modern Melodic Death Metal band from Leeds masterminded by Jimmy MacGregor that began as a solo project more than a decade ago but developed naturally into a formidable force in the live arena since. Citing influences as far apart as Meshuggah, Sylosis and Devin Townsend the band made their bow with EP “Found” in 2012 before playing the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Open Air Metal Festival in 2016. Since then a debut album in 2017’s “Death Of A Prince” goes down as a highlight, as does sharing stages with everyone from the much missed Carcer City to Witch Tripper, something which has allowed them to make their presence felt across all four corners of this green and pleasant land. But it is upcoming third anniversary of EP “Solitare” which appeared via Blood Blast Distribution, the imprint label of Nuclear Blast Records in November 2020 that has us salivating. That’s what the trio are going to bring to Summer Bash V, with cuts like “Black Death” and “Feel The Wolf” perfect to get the party started!
