Throwback: “Too Much Nothing” by Mushroomhead!

Recorded over a one year period between 1994 and 1995, the debut self titled album from Cleveland Ohio Alternative Metal act Mushroomhead is a cause for celebration. An independent release and the only one to feature the original line up of the group, it’s laced with 14 movie samples over 13 cuts, ranging from Quentin Tarantino’s neo noir masterpiece Reservoir Dogs to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Partnering long time vocal duo Jeffrey “Nothing” Hatrix and Jason “J Mann” Popson it brought comparisons to a heavier version of Faith No More with a big keyboard sound from Tom Schmitz, something evident on our cut of choice, the original version of “Too Much Nothing“. It just so happens to be one of many that would later be remixed and remastered for a compilation album released by Universal Records in 2001 titled “XX” and pronounced “Double X“…
