The Black Map #283: Wallowing (Summer Bash 666 Hell In Hawaii Edition)!

The warning signs are all around us, hidden in plain sight. Something wicked this way comes. 10 beasts are arising the black depths, their sights set on reducing the Facebar in Reading to a pile of dust and ash. They will attempt to do so on Saturday 13th July at Summer Bash 666: Hell In Hawaii, an event hosted by Progressive Death Metal Kings Mercury’s Well. An Underground Metal event with a Hawaiian beach party theme that will see riffs, pulverising percussion and rumbling bass clash with Hawaiian shirts, flower necklaces and inflatables, it’s the hottest ticket in town. Here’s line up in full:

Wallowing (headliner)
A Night In The Abyss
Mercury’s Well
Them Bloody Kids

Chaos Theory

At one point a seemingly nameless, faceless science fiction horror themed Extreme Metal squadron from realms unknown, Wallowing have since been identified by the Agents of M.A.N. as being very much human. Hailing from Brighton on the South Coast of England, the five piece in fact feature King Goat drummer Jon Wingrove and Tombgrinder multi instrumentalist Mark Roberts in their ranks and have conjured a toxic blend of Blackened Sludge Doom infused with Noise Metal which has been enough to awaken beasts from centuries of slumber. Formed in 2017 they took two years to turn their blueprint into a reality with debut album “Planet Loss“, a record which was granted 300 copies of limited edition vinyl via Sludgelord Records.

2021 then saw the band take part in a four way split with Thin, Slabdragger and Vixen Maw which only served to amplify their prior convictions. While most bands would be waterfall releasing singles, Wallowing prefer the left hand path and the ways of past masters. 2023 saw them unveil sophomore album “Earth Reaper” via Church Road Records, a reason to bathe venues in the green light of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien and unleash demons in a cathartic fashion. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Misery and disgust with the crushing power of a black hole, their violent mood swings find them veering from savagely heavy Doom to dark and experimental science fiction infused Black Metal with an unmistakable intensity…
