Rabidfest 2024: Breaking Down The Bands #9: Ocean Planet!

It’s official. There are 58 days left until Oxfords finest Metal Weekender Rabidfest on 2nd and 3rd November at The Bullingdon, which means your excuses for not getting a ticket for your mother in law are running low. She’s an old school Metal head and with Fury and Cloven Hoof in the line up you could get yourself a few brownie points. You never know when they might come in handy. She also might find that she falls in love with London Groove Thrash merchants Imperium because those boys know how to put on a show but perhaps the Blackened Symphonic Deathcore of Draconian Reign might be a step too far… here’s the line up in full…

Seemingly taking their name from a song which takes pride of place on 2005’s “from Mars to Sirius” by Gojira, groove orientated Progressive Technical Metal merchants Ocean Planet will bring their guitar driven assault on the senses to Rabidfest in November. Armed for the apocalypse, the Reading based riff lords have two full albums worth of material under their collective belts with 2023’s “Immersion” and this years “Mechanism“, offering up more than 75 minutes of weapons grade Metal complete with lush atmospherics to chemically enhance them yet further. Curiously, despite both records being released in instrumental form, there is classic science fiction based storyline behind the material as humanity unites to fight a common adversary, a force from beyond, who wishes to wipe the slate clean. Now here’s where things get funky. Ocean Planet recruited a vocalist this year who has been performing live with them as they smashed their way through Metal 2 the Masses in Oxford and getting to the final where they eventually lost out to Stone Soup. So what are we expecting? The announcement that Ocean Planet have inked a deal with Netflix for a series based on their soundtrack and are collaborating with writer David Twohy on it. Watch this space. Pun intended.

We’re proud to be a Media Partner of Rabidfest again this year alongside Red Death Media, Moomin Merchandise, Metalplanetmusic, Moshville Times, GraphicsFix, TwoFace Promotions, Blackstar Amplification, DC Sound Attack and main stage sponsor. Devolution Magazine. The Festival is all for charity and this year the profits will be going to the The Sophie Lancaster Foundation!
