Summer Bash 2025: An Introduction to Mercury’s Well!

We’ve been talking about it for months but just in case you haven’t read the memo because… you’ve been sleeping under a rock or with fishes or some such nonsense, here’s another reminder, so listen up and listen good. On 26th July 2025 at The Facebar in Reading, no less than 11 bands will be taking to the stage to perform for you all of their classic songs, greatest hits and of course a few deep cuts and covers. If that wasn’t enough to get you excited for Summer Bash hosted by Mercury’s Well then let us add that it’s a Hawaiian themed Beach Party. Indoors with Air Conditioning, so you can beat the heat or the rain and get yourself a cocktail or 10 from the bar with your friends while wearing your finest Hawaiian shirt and or grass skirt. There will be flower necklaces, inflatable palm trees and everything else you might expect… except maybe a BBQ. Sound good? What are you waiting for? We’ve spent the past six weeks introducing you to the bands who will be playing this years incarnation of Summer Bash and so now it’s time to identify (or perhaps even name and shame) our auspicious hosts. A three piece Progressive Death Metal act, Mercury’s Well first appeared on the scene more than a decade ago when they shared with an unsuspecting World their debut EP “The Way of Ashes” in 2015. A concept record which tells the story of a man who is transformed into a tree and wages war against the Sun following the untimely death of his father, it sounds like Nick Cave fronting Opeth for shits and giggles. If you can’t wrap your head around that then lets use the words eclectic, eccentric, brutal and avant-garde before letting you check it out. After that the international men of mystery also known and guitarist and vocalist Simon Davies, bassist James Tiffin and drummer Liam Fogarty played numerous shows around the Globe.

Fast forward to 2022 and after making us wait seven long years, the trio unveiled their debut self titled album for our listening pleasure. Recorded, produced and mastered by Matt Bew at Whitehouse Studios and created with the assistance of Sammy Ragheb, it continued the narrative of its predecessor while offering so much more. Sometimes people see “Death Metal” and think neanderthal but nothing could be further from the truth. After all, there are intelligent lyrics which reference works by Richard Wagner and Robert Bly without requiring you to know that or indeed who they are in order to enjoy the record. Nuanced with extended instrumental passages, rumbling bass and brutal roars are balanced off by more gentle sounds and clean vocal passages, the trio creating a balanced record with something on it that everyone can enjoy. Summer Bash is their event, an annual home town throwdown and a wonderful occasion to put talent from the United Kingdom underground scene on the map. Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear Hawaiian shirts.

We’re proud confirm that Metal Noise dot Net is returning for a third consecutive year as the Media Partner for Summer Bash! Mercury’s Well will be hosting the seventh incarnation of their annual Hawaiian beach party themed event on 26th July 2025 at The Facebar in Reading.
