Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? Fight! “Paranoid” Edition

Black Sabbath may have gone their separate ways a little while ago after a lengthy and illustrious career in the upper echelons of Global Metal but their legacy will live on undoubtedly for decades to come. Especially with Canadian’s Cancer Bats doing the whole Bat Sabbath bit. Classic Super Nintendo game Rock N’Roll Racing developed by Silicon & Synapse (which later became Blizzard Entertainment) featured a number of 8-bit reworks of classic riffs in it’s soundtrack but most memorably was “Paranoid”. In the Red corner? From the re-release of their “Under The Running Board” EP (which took it from 3 tracks to an epic 13!) The Dillinger Escape Plan sans original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis. They were a band renowned for their covers and this is them at their experimental finest.

And in the Blue corner? From “Nativity in Black: A Tribute to Black Sabbath” here’s the classic Megadeth version. It went on to feature on the bands 1995 rarities release “Hidden Treasures” and is probably best remembered for Dave Mustaine’s shout of “Nick! Nick! NICK!” at then drummer Nick Menza across the studio floor. He sadly passed away in May 2016 while playing with his instrumental Jazz/Rock fusion band OHM. Rest in peace brother. Who wins? You decide.
