The Black Map #52: Realm of Torment from Southampton!

What’s in a name? What’s in a genre or sub-genre tag? When your band label themselves as “Metalcore” in 2019 it can literally mean just about anything. So much so that often the word “Metalcore” is used to replace the word “Metal”. So your band is a five piece with a twin guitar attack and you play Metal. That’s about as non descript as someone saying that ate something that tastes like chicken. What?!

Southampton based Realm of Torment are a band claiming to be the South Coasts worst export, making music in a Deathcore tinged My Space era Metalcore sound for fans of I Killed The Prom Queen and pretty much everything else circa 2000. We had the pleasure of witnessing their live set a couple of years back when they opened for Suicide Silence and Venom Prison at Southampton Engine Rooms. When the headline act talk about the support bands pitting harder than the fans during their set, it’s these dudes they were talking about!

After a bit of quiet in the camp, Realm of Torment have announced the recording of their sophomore album “Those Who Don’t Fear Death Never Die”. It was recorded at Studio 6 in Swindon in February with Stu Mckay in the chair and is slated for a 28th June appearance. 14th July will see an album release show at Southampton Heartbreakers and at 8 tracks and 30 minutes it promises to be just what the Dr ordered to accompany a pint in the summer sun.
