Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Rocky Ed.
It’s time for some cheese. Written by Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik and recorded at the request of Sylvester Stallone as the theme music for Rocky III, “Eye of the Tiger” is easily the best known song by Survivor. It was nominated for a pair of awards, in 1982 and 1983, narrowly missing out.
First up, in the red corner we have Pop Punk legends New Found Glory with their version of the classic. It will appear on the third installment of their “From the Screen to Your Stereo” series via Hopeless Records on 3rd May. The band will be upon our shores later next month for the Slam Dunk Festival shows!
In the blue corner we have the artists collectively formerly known as Devil You Know and now referred to as Light The Torch. They recorded their version for their second album “They Bleed Red” in 2015, very much a sequel to the cover of “Holy Diver” by Dio that Howard Jones recorded with Killswitch Engage. That would make sense seeing as Light The Torch are a supergroup of sorts featuring former members of Killswitch Engage and All Shall Perish as well as current members of Bleeding Through and Extinction A.D. in their ranks. Who wins? You decide!
