Riff Police! Pull Over! #78: MSRY Vs Lifetight!

After a pair of weeks where Sacramento Californians Deftones featured as being the influencing factor in tracks by Blood Youth and Darknet, it’s time we went Underground for today’s episode of Riff Police. There’s been way too much Thrash and way too many big names. Apparently. Having said that, there is a big name involved in this little saga…

Heading back to July 2018 and Oxford Hardcore Punks MSRY dropped their sophomore EP “Safety First“, a fine piece of work that features “Broken Teeth”, a single that got the full music video treatment with Lifetight vocalist Thomas Smith picking up the microphone. We had the pleasure of seeing Lifetight play live at Fat Lip Fest in Bristol where they absolutely wrecked the place, they were phenomenal and their self titled debut EP from November 2017 is a blinder. Sadly with the resurrection of the now once again buried alive Lock & Key, Lifetight split on the verge of releasing their second EP after losing two members.

Fast forward to November 2019 and “Still Breaks My Heart” from MSRY adorns their third studio EP “Loss”, complete with cameo from Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats. They’re massive fans so it was quite a coup for them. But hold up. Wait just a cotton picking minute. There’s something familiar about the riff. Notice “Energy” from Lifetight in there?! Hmm.

Disclaimer: This series is making light of the the things that make you go “Hmmm”. It’s just a bit of fun. We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
