Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Static-X
As the 20th Anniversary of “Wisconsin Death Trip” rumbles on, it’s time we paid tribute to Wayne Static once again ourselves at Metal Noise. We’ve been Static-X fans since “Push It” dropped into our TV screens and spent many a DJ slot playing “Black & White” to an audience on an Alternative Metal night, though “Start A War” was an album that captivated us the most around its release. We’ve picked a track that appeared on the “Queen Of The Damned” soundtrack after the original score that was done by KoRn vocalist Jonathan Davis was seeming blocked by their their record label. Directed by Linkin Park DJ Joe Hahn and Nathan “Karma” Cox, the video for “Cold” is a homage to the 1954 Horror novel “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson, which later became a film starring Will Smith.
First up we have Cynical Existence, who love their synths as much as they love Static-X. They recorded their version in 2018 just before their debut full length “Rebirth” having previously done a succession of EPs. Secondly we have Mindsave, who were formed in 2007 in the city of Tuapse on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory by Dmitry Lazebnik. Their song “Breath” made an impact on Russian state radio and the trio recorded their version in the studio last March. Who wins? You decide.
